Unsung Heroes: Lesser-Known African American Women Authors - Paule Marshall

Paule Marshall (April 9, 1929 - August 12, 2019)

Paule Marshall's novels, including Brown Girl, Brownstones (1959) and Praise Song for the Widow (1983), often draw on her Barbadian heritage and address themes of cultural identity, diaspora, and female empowerment. Marshall's lyrical prose and deeply personal narratives have earned her a devoted readership, yet she remains less widely known than some of her peers.
